Barista Training | Barista Courses

Barista courses can take place at Adams and Russel coffee school in Wirral, Merseyside or at your premises.

All barista courses are accredited by SCA (the Specialised Coffee Association of Europe).

I provide one to one barista training, giving you my absolute undivided attention and enabling you to use the time to ask, practice, learn at your pace. 

Group sessions can also be arranged for example training your staff or colleagues.

Barista training Skills is for people focussing on the key skills required to set your grinder, make espresso and foam and texture milk for cappuccinos. This module allows you to gain a deeper understanding of the coffee itself and build on your practical skills for milk technique and latte art, not to mention health and safety, customer service and basic business.

Length of course: 3-4 hours

Introduction to coffee is an ideal barista course for anyone who is new to the coffee industry or just has an interest in this wonderful drink. It charts coffee’s journey from its origins in Ethiopia to the major commodity it is today, enjoyed by millions of people around the world. From farming the cherries through drying, roasting, brewing and finally drinking, this module looks at the processes coffee goes through. This half day barista training also includes a “coffee cupping” which allows you to taste the various flavours coffee has to offer.

You will learn about:

  • What is speciality coffee
  • Understanding the history of coffee
  • Understanding the coffee beans
  • The basics of roasting
  • Coffee freshness
  • Brewing basics

Length of course: 1 day

Barista training skills foundation is for people new to the coffee industry and focuses on the key skills required to set your grinder, make espresso and foam and texture milk for cappuccinos.  No previous barista experience is required for this course.

You will learn about:

  • Coffee beans
  • Workspace management (hygiene and organisation)
  • Grinding, dosing and tamping
  • Extraction and brewing
  • Milk techniques
  • Barista menu 
  • Hygiene, health and safety
  • Customer service
  • Cleaning, maintenance and troubleshooting

Length of course: 2 days

Barista training skills intermediate provides a deeper understanding of the coffee itself and builds on the practical skills learnt at Foundation level. Milk techniques, including latte art, are introduced as well as health and safety, customer service and basic business. This barista course is suitable for people already working as baristas

Topics are the same roughly as for the foundation but covered in much more detail and depth.

You will learn about:

  • Workspace management (hygiene and organisation)
  • Grinding, dosing and tamping
  • Extraction and brewing
  • Milk techniques
  • Barista menu 
  • Hygiene, health and safety

Length of course: 2 days

Barista training skills professional level is suitable for baristas with considerable experience who have also completed the Intermediate qualification. It takes both a scientific and managerial perspective to coffee and making espresso-based drinks.

Topics are more or less the same as with foundation and intermediate but taking you to that next level that even finer detail and depth needed.
